In 2024, multiple notices were received from vendors increasing prices varying from 6% to 47% for the district's expenses.  Some services do not have competitors who service our area, for example, emergency vehicle maintenance.  For 2025, this vendor increased their pricing by  47%.  This may be the largest increase with most vendors increasing an average of 6-10%.

The district is operated by a full-time Fire Chief, administrative assistant and volunteers.  A community elected Board of Fire Commissioners oversees and guides the organization to best meet the emergency response needs of the community and assisted areas.  The district currently provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) services as well as rescue, structure, wildland, and other types of responses.

1949 fire in town of Mossyrock, WA

Of all calls for service received, approximately 83% are EMS and 17% are fire calls.  Professionally staffed by volunteer responders and a paid Fire Chief and administrative assistant.  With future hopes of firefighter/EMS response paid staff on duty at the station, the response times would drop and there would be additional units available in case of multiple calls happening at the same time.  Currently, in the case of multiple calls, there are agreements with neighboring districts for mutual aid, however, it further increases response times, and they may be unavailable due to their own incidents.

Grants & Donations

The district is focusing on grants to aid in replacing expired fire personal protective equipment such as turnouts, fire helmets and fire boots.

This year, 2024, a big thanks to DNR for selecting our district to receive a 2015 DNR surplus truck to replace the 20+ year old smaller brush truck at the main fire station.  DNR has also selected the district through a FEPP Program to provide funds in the amount of $3,500 for the 2015 newly acquired DNR truck to help equip with LED scene lighting, bumper guard and winch.  In addition, a $7000 FEPP grant to add a front electric monitor to the, recently acquired through an engine surplus program, USFS brush truck at Flynn Road substation.  With these funds, both apparatuses will be able to provide increased scene safety and effectiveness against fires.

At the end of 2023, DNR facilitated the surplus loaner of a US Forest Service Type 3 fire truck to serve as a brush truck stationed at the districts Flynn Rd. substation.

A donation of canned emergency drinking water from Anheuser-Busch through a partnership with National Volunteer Fire Council to help keep responders hydrated as they battle wildfire season.  On June 29th, 2023, a pallet of water was delivered by local Anheuser-Busch wholesaler partner, King Beverage. The water will help maintain firefighters’ hydration during long incidents or disasters such as wildfires, which is a major safety concern for fire districts.

Thanks to US Dept. of Agriculture, in 2022, the district received grant funding partnering with district funding to service the community with a new ambulance, power load system and updated emergency life monitoring equipment.

In 2020, the district was awarded a Community Development Block Grant by the Dept. of Commerce to build the second half of the fire station to include the meeting/training room, kitchen, mechanical/HVAC room, sleeping quarters, bathrooms & offices for the Chief and Administrative Assistant.  This not only provides a great training space for the volunteers, but also provides a kitchen and gathering room for the community to use.
